Win tickets to Creatures of the Night in Glasgow with Miller Genuine Draft – NOW CLOSED

October 24, 2011

***This competition is now closed and winners have been notified***

The Daily Dose has joined forces with the generous chaps at Miller Genuine Draft to give away three pairs of tickets to three lucky people for Creatures of the Night, a Halloween street festival set to take place in Glasgow’s Ashton Lane on Saturday 29 October.

Miller Genuine Draft’s ‘Tonight – It’s Miller Time’ campaign invites you to roam between the bars on Ashton Lane and watch upon as dusk settles and the Creatures of the Night awaken. The one ticket, multi-venue event will turn the nightspots on the West End street into a cauldron of darkness and ghoulish thrills, with decadent Halloween themes throughout.

To get hips shaking, global favourites Pendulum will be playing a DJ set as part of the event, whilst Foals’ Edwin Congreave and Walter Gervers will take the action outside by DJing on the cobbled street itself. Eight venues on the famous Glasgow street – which will include the likes of Jinty McGuinty’s, Brel and Radio – will each play host to a variety of musical talent, including beatbox king Killa Kela, Hushpuppy, Mash (Capital FM), Stevie Coyle (Tronic Sole) and Matty Etherson, as well as Scottish acts such as Capitals, Meursault and Boycotts. More acts are yet to be announced, so visit www.facebook.com/itsmillertimeuk for more information.

Foals: Slightly more human looking than their name suggests (ish)

As well as the diverse musical line-up, roaming actors and performers – including snake charmers, fire breathers and burlesque dancers – will ensure that your Halloween will most likely be one to remember.

Win tickets to see Where We Lay Our Heads at King Tut’s Summer Nights 2011 – now closed

July 6, 2011

We like the summer, and we like Glasgow’s King Tut’s. So when they launched their Summer Nights 2011 programme, featuring 75 bands over 15 days, things got a bit giddy.

Things got even giddier however when we were given two shiny tickets to see Where We Lay Our Heads on Sunday 17 July, who play alongside Aerials Up, Blochestra, Little Fire and Esperi, who will perform in the bar. It promises to be a belter.

To twin a pair of tickets to this indie-pop-folk-music shindig, email your answer to the gloriously open-ended question below to hello@thedailydose.co.uk by 9pm on Wednesday 13 July and we’ll pick our favourite entry. Answer me this:

Where is your favourite place to lay your head?

*** THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED ***

Win Tellison tickets – now closed

June 3, 2011

Tellison: Who needs eye contact anyway?

London indie-rockers Tellison head to Edinburgh on 24 June to play Sneaky Pete’s, with a supporting cast of Leeds’ Sketches, your neighbour the liar, Debutant and Esperi. Which we think is pretty darn good.

So when we were told we could give away two tickets to the gig, we lapped up the idea like a dairy-hungry cat who has been force fed soya milk for two weeks.

***THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED***

To win a pair of tickets to the gig, email your answer to the question below to hello@thedailydose.co.uk by noon on Friday 17 June.

How many members are there in Tellison?

A: 2
B: 4
C: 5
D: I don’t know because I can’t count

If you don’t like free stuff, you can also buy tickets for the gig from WeGotTickets or Tickets Scotland.

Pete and the Pirates

May 25, 2011

Last week we posted a competition to win tickets to Sailor Jerry Presents: Pete and the Pirates in Glasgow on May 27, with support from Let’s Buy Happiness and Schnapps. Well, the competition closes tomorrow, so you’d better get entering quick…

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

We took some time out to speak to David and Tom from Pete and Pirates – read what they had to say below…

You’re playing
Glasgow on Friday. Why should people come down and check you out?

So that they will see that we are great, and will buy our album, then play it to their friends who will do the same, and then we will become rich and buy many cars and houses.

Is Scotland a place that holds many memories for you?

Driving through the night from London to Inverness, and hitting the Highlands as the sun came up – my favourite drive of all time.

Are Pete and the Pirates best heard live or on record?

Buy the record, come to the gig and tell us what you think! (@petepirates)

If you could metaphor-ise Pete and the Pirates’ sound into a biscuit, what biscuit would it be and why?

Milk chocolate Hob-Nob. It’s kind of a bit rough round the edges, it melts well, it actually has a wholesome element, but it’s also a bit naughty, it makes you feel warm inside, it’s addictive. You can share it with someone. You can lick it.

What’s your tipple of choice on tour?

Cheap European lager, with lashings of Sailor Jerry.

And finally, should you ever have to pick one, what’d be your chosen pirate name?

I don’t want to associate with pirates. I’ve gone right off them.

Win tickets to Sailor Jerry Presents Pete and the Pirates

Sailor Jerry Presents returns for 2011 with five-piece Reading band, Pete and the Pirates to headline the second date in this year’s Sailor Jerry Presents series.

Hitting Glasgow’s Stereo on Friday 27 May, Pete and The Pirates have attracted a devoted cult following since releasing their debut album, ‘Little Death’ in 2008. The band are set to release new album ‘One Thousand Pictures’ in May, that features current single ‘Come To The Bar’ –  deemed ‘Hottest Record In The World’ by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1.

Tickets for the gig are limited but Sailor Jerry has set aside a few to make sure you don’t miss out. They will also throw in some classic drinks for you on the night, including Sailor & ginger or Sailor & cola. Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins was the father of old-school American tattooing and his visionary style influenced an entire generation of tattoo artists which is still recognized today. Get a taste for the drink which bears his signature whilst you get stuck in to one of the most memorable gigs of the summer.

They’re at www.facebook.com/sailorjerryuk where you can find more information, with more giveaways to be announced later in the year.

The Sailor Jerry Presents series works with musicians and artists who express Sailor Jerry’s approach to authenticity and craftsmanship with a no nonsense, anti-authority attitude. A packed first Sailor Jerry Presents show with Leeds rockers Pulled Apart by Horses in April has set the pace for an incredible series of live shows for 2011 so book your ticket now at www.sailorjerry.co.uk.

Happy birthday…to me…and our 1st birthday giveaway

March 23, 2011

Today is a happy day – it is The Daily Dose‘s 1st birthday. 365 days ago we published our first post, an interview with gothic-rockers Flyleaf. Over the past year, we spoken to a number of stonking Scottish talent, chinwagged with the likes of Blink-182, Lissie and AFI, showcased Scottish photographers and dipped our toes in the darkside with our ‘Metal Monday’ feature. We also put on a number of gigs and was invited to a Tennent’s advertising launch – free beer all day – with fellow blogger Peenko. Why? We still don’t know.

And to celebrate all this fun, we are not eating cake, blowing candles and unwrapping presents. Instead, today we launch the:

Yes indeed – roll up, roll up. At this very moment we are kindly being donated CDs, t-shirts, DVDs and almost everything in between (not quite) from Scottish bands and musicians across the country. There will be goodies from bands we have featured on the blog before, and ones that we haven’t. It will all be chucked carefully into a box and will be the super-duper prize for our super-duper 1st birthday giveaway.

We will be revealing what will be included in the prize and how you can win it all soon – but for now, happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me…
